Designing My Double Page Spread
This is the first stage of my designing process for my double page spread. I have added a border to make it more aesthetically pleasing. The border is also the same colour and pattern as the background of the titles for my front cover and contents page. I have done this so it adds to the house style of my magazine. Looking back at some of my research I noticed that a lot of music magazines have their own house style so I have incorporated this into my own magazine. For the layout I placed the image on one side and the text will be on the other, I have done this as when I was doing my research I noticed the majority of music magazines did this too. The side where the text will be, I have made a background that is the same as the background for the contents page, I did this to also add to the magazine's house style.
I have now added page numbers to the bottom of the double page spread as well as the name of the magazine, "Pop Vibe" I have done this as when I looked back at some of the music magazines I have researched they had page numbers and the name of the magazine at the bottom, therefore to make my magazine look more like a music magazine that is sold today I incorporated this into my design. I have also added the headings for the article and I am now ready to write up the whole article.
I have added my first part to the article. I've displayed the text in columns to make it look more like a magazine double page spread. The first part of the text is an brief introduction to the artist. I now need to add the actual interview and then I will have finished the double page spread.
This is my final double page spread. I have added the interview part to the article now, I also changed the colour of my page numbers to white as even though its not part of my colour scheme the readers will be able to see them now, as before when they were a light blue they were difficult to see. The background around the price on the front cover is also white so the page numbers can fit in with that.

Designing My Contents Page

This is the first stage of my designing process for my contents page. I have used the same font for the title as I did for my title on my front cover so the magazine has its own house style. I have also used the same background for the title as I did for my front cover to also add to the house style. The rest of the background for my contents page uses the same grain effect as the background for my title but I have just used a different colour. I used blue to go with my colour scheme for the magazine which is pink, purple and blue. At first I thought it might look a bit over powering but I think it will appeal to my target audience. Also the contents page needs to stand out from other pages and the use of colours does this.
I have change the background of my contents page as when I started to add some text it was difficult to read it. I have stuck to my colour scheme and I have used a gradient colour instead of having just a plain block of colour.
My contents page is now complete. I have added borders around my images to make them stand out. I have also added borders around the subheadings to make them stand out too.

Designing My Front Cover
This is the first stage of my designing process for my music magazine front cover. The font I have chosen for the masthead looks young and groovy and also quite girly which will appeal to my target audience. I have chosen pink, blue and purple for my colour scheme as when I looked back over my questionnaire this was the option that was liked the most so I have incorporated this into my magazine.
I have moved the coverline that was on the first design and used it as strapline instead as part of my research was to look at other music magazines and I noticed that a lot of them include a strapline. I have also added a background to my masthead and filled it with colour- the same colours that are incorporated in my colour scheme. Instead of having just a plain block of colour I added a grain effect to make it look more appealing. Also looking at other music magazines I noticed that the majority of them don't use block colours.
I have now added a barcode to make the magazine look more realistic.
I have now added the last coverline and all I need to do now is to add my central image and then my front cover will be complete.
I have now added my image and now my front cover is complete. The price has a white box around it to emphasise what a bargain the audience is getting.
Time Management Update
When I looked back at my action plan I realised that I still need to do my mock ups of my front cover, contents page and double page spread for my music magazine as well as designing them. I also need to take some photos to put in my music magazine. This week I shall do the mock up of my front cover, contents page and double page spread and start designing my front cover- layout the text etc.

Research And Planning: Audience Research Questionnaire Results

After reviewing my results from my questionnaire, I have decided that the total cost for the music magazine will be £1. The magazine will be published once a month as looking at my results from my questionnaire the majority of people only buy one music magazine a month. For one of my questions for my questionnaire I asked what content should be included in the music magazine and the results for the options were very similar, therefore the content I will include will be chart music, information on new artists, gossip on music stars and artists to look out for. The colour scheme for the music magazine will be pink, purple and blue. There will also be more images than text in the magazine to appeal more to my target audience and the text that is included shall be of an informal language. The name of my music magazine will be Pop Vibe and it shall contain 15-20 pages.

Research And Planning: Initial Idea For Music Magazine
My initial idea for my music magazine is pop music. It will mainly be aimed at young teenage girls, ranging from 11-17 year olds. The girls who read this magazine shall be interested in shopping, hair and make-up, the latest gossip, boys and socialising with friends. The age of my target audience means that most of them are in school or studying further education. The information I will include in my music magazine is the latest gossip on pop music stars, whats new in the charts and bands and pop stars to look out for.

Introduction To Main Task
For my main task I need to create the front page, contents page and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text I include in my music magazine must be my own. There must also be a minimum of four pages.
Magazine Evaluation
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Before I designed and created my magazine, I researched and looked at different examples of student magazines, which gave me inspiration for my own. I noticed that there are various key things to put on the front covers of student magazines as well as suitable content throughout. It had to include what the audience wanted, which in my case, was college information. My magazine also had to appeal to students through the use of language, layout and appearance. To resolve this I made sure the magazine looked quite informal otherwise if it was too formal students wouldn’t want to purchase it. I also included more images than text so it looked more appealing and not boring.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine is aimed at teenage students. This is why I have included more images than text as the majority of teenagers would be put off if they saw a lot of text. Also the text that is included in my magazine is simple and informal to resemble student language. All of my images are of students to emphasise that the magazine is about and for the students.
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My magazine is specifically for college use and therefore would be only be on sale in the college. This is also where most students will see a college magazine. It would most likely be made in the college itself, to keep the manufacturing cost to a minimum.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience is students ranging from ages 16-18 who study at Ludlow College. It is aimed at all genders so more people will buy it.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by the use of colour, layout and the central image on my front cover. The colour scheme I used was black, white and blue and even though these colours may seem to be aimed more at males, the use of a female for my central image balances out the gender aim. Also by using a student from Ludlow College as the central image on the cover of the magazine, shows that the magazine is aimed at students from Ludlow College. The font I used for the mastheads is quite funky to appeal to students to, it is also quite bold to catch people’s eye.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Before I started making my magazine I had never used Photoshop or InDesign and wasn’t sure if I would be able to use it, but with time I gradually became used to the software. Also when I was taking my photographs I had to think how they would appeal to a student audience and how to make the pictures look natural. I had also never created my own blog before, therefore I had to learn how to use blogger and make my blog look appealing.
